MAS DG to CNN: Reconstruction cannot proceed without a credible pathway to sovereignty.
Raja Khalidi,
DG of MAS spoke today with Becky Anderson of CNN about the challenges of reconstruction in Gaza Strip in the wake of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He stressed that only if a political process quickly emerges towards Palestinian sovereignty can reconstruction be planned and implemented, led by the Palestinian people. He pointed out that merging the Trump principles with the French-Saudi effort rooted in the UN, and enshrining the security, governance and reconstruction tasks within a binding UN Security Council resolution could yet provide such a pathway. In the absence of such a political outcome, Palestinian resilience will be redefined as basic survival, in both regions of the occupied territory, until Israel's expansion and aggression can be pushed back and the intended outcome of a two state solution be a realistic prospect.
