The Consumer Price Index Marked a Minor Decrease in October Compared to September
In October the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Palestine decreased by 0.54% from the previous month to 109.82 points. This came as the result of a decline in the overall level of prices in both the West Bank (-0.22%) and the Gaza Strip (-1.73%), while prices in East Jerusalem increased by 0.40%. However, the October 2014 CPI marked an increase of 0.73% in comparison with the same month of 2013: -1.55% in the West Bank, +2.37% in the Gaza Strip, and +2.93% in East Jerusalem.
 
The table below shows the changes in the major consumer goods and services groups making up the CPI levels between October 2013 and October 2014, on the one hand, and September 2014 and October 2014, on the other.

As the table above demonstrates, the most significant increase in prices between September and October this year in Palestine happened in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco group (+2.44%), while the biggest drop was in the food and soft drinks group (-2.41%). On yearly basis, the largest increases occurred in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+16.07%), miscellaneous goods and services (+9.89%), and medical care (+8.39%), whereas the prices of communications (-3.71%) and education (-3.32%) feel most significantly.
 
The figure below demonstrates the movement of the monthly overall CPI for Palestine, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem in the last five years.
